We would love to have you visit us at Woodland Presbyterian. Our goal as a church is to be an inclusive community of faith that opens its doors to all people.
We know it can be intimidating to attend a church for the first time so we thought we’d answer a few questions before you arrive for the first time.
What Kind of Place Is This?
Most Sundays, our worship is “traditional” with organ and hymns, though most weeks, we enjoy having our tradition interrupted with some less common expressions of worship.
Our approach to God is often characterized as “progressive,” embracing social justice, inclusivity, and wonder and mystery in the face of uncertainty and unanswered questions. Ours is not a church with “all the answers,” but we do hope to be asking (and provoking) lots of the right questions.
You can find our current worship schedule here.
Before you even make it in the door, where should you park?
It can be a little tricky!
The front of the church is facing the street so there’s no parking right in front of the building, but you can park on Gartland Avenue and come in the side door or turn down the alley behind the church, and you’ll find a parking lot. From the parking lot, come in the doors to the right, up the stairs and you’ll find the sanctuary.
What Do People Wear?
Don’t worry about what to wear to church. At Woodland, there is no “right” way to dress on a Sunday. You’ll see people in jeans and t-shirts, skirts and dress shirts, and every now and then someone even wears a tie. Whatever you’re most comfortable with we’re most comfortable with.
If you have a child age 0-1st grade we have a nursery for them on the same floor as the sanctuary. Children and youth from 2nd grade – 12th grade meet downstairs. Ask any greeter and they’ll show you the way!
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the children’s and youth program.
At Woodland, we have a long history of serving each other, our church and the Nashville community. We have many opportunities to serve the community through our Saturday Suppers and Room in the Inn ministries. If you have an area of service you are interested in, you can complete our Time and Energy Survey here.
Every Saturday night at Woodland there is a meal for anyone in need of one. Through a partnership with other churches and and ministries, we are able to open our doors for a hot meal and warm hospitality each Saturday night. Contact us here if you’re interested in serving.
In the winter months, we partner with Room in the Inn to provide meals and shelter for men experiencing homelessness in Nashville. If you’re interested in serving with us, please contact us here.
Parents Day Out Program: El Jardin de los Niños
El Jardin de Los Niños / The Children’s Garden exists to provide a safe and supportive, Spanish language focused preschool option for the Nashville community.
